Pay Close Attention if You Have Any Dreams for a Better World

Hate is everywhere. We can try to not look at it. We can tell ourselves we don’t hate but point fingers at everyone else that does so we can feel superior and declare that they are the whole problem with this world: Hate. Intolerance. Indifference. Insensitivity.

But hate is just the byproduct of something far more troubling: Fear.

It’s because they are afraid, and that’s why they hate. It’s because you are afraid and that’s why you hate. Because the opposite of love is not hate, it’s fear.

If we ever want to pull through this period in our history with our souls intact, we need to look more deeply. We need to understand more completely where hate comes from or we will never find our way to love.

Overcoming Our Reflexive Impulses

I know when I see hate, my impulse is to hate. Especially when my energy is low I struggle with hateful rage when I see just about anything on the news these days. This happens especially when I’m already sunk in depression, anger, frustration and fatigue. All of which makes me more susceptible to illness and triggers my auto-immune issues to flare.

That’s why on most self-care check lists is the idea of turning off the news.
