This is Why I don’t Agree With Masks and Vaccines
And no, I’m not a Republican. Fear brings out narcissistic behavior in society and we need to be aware of how much damage it can cause.
If you’ve been following me, you may recall my saying that narcissism is the by-product of fear. Aside from it being a personality disorder in some, it is a coping mechanism used by others who are scared and lack self-awareness. I don’t necessarily mean that those who use this method of coping are “narcissists” or have Narcissistic Personality Disorder. We all have coping methods we use when we get scared, but we need to be aware if that method is being used at the expense of others, and work to curb that.
I believe things will get worse before they get better, and the more awareness we can have about our own behavior — not just point fingers at other’s behaviors — and how it can incite even more problems, the more prepared we can all be for what’s coming.
It’s time we really take to heart Gandhi’s quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
People don’t choose to not be self-aware, they may have not had the quality of experiences to gain awareness, or they may just not have the emotional intelligence to put themselves in another’s shoes. But we can always learn to be more self-aware and increase our emotional IQ.
The first order of business to understanding and awareness is to remove judgement. I personally work on this everyday. But judgment is a 2-way street. Can you get off Judgment Avenue and walk with me for a bit?
When the Corona virus first came on the scene, it struck fear into the hearts of humans that progressed quickly to panic. When humans get scared they want someone to blame. We started with the Chinese, then we looked to governments, and then we began pointing our fingers at each other. Also, when humans get scared, they demand simple answers (black and white thinking) to very complicated questions, and their behavior can become narcissistic. They can become incapable of Whole Object Relations, a psychological term that means people are unable to see anything other than all good or all bad.
